bachmann thomas

got this model maybe 6-8 years ago, somehow it broke more and more and i have no idea how or in what order the problems started emerging. he has a missing face, the paint is scratched off, missing buffers, a broken pickup, and the chassis and wheels are completely separated. atp its not worth fixing but i do want to have an old tooling thomas because of the new rework thats coming around.

old bachmann percy

one of my first models, i kind of stupidly left him out on the tracks and somehow when i came back his piston was missing and we couldnt find it. i tried running him but i think it put a lot of stress on the motor and it hasnt run since. also there are missing buffers. i now have a new percy in much better condition, but im still gonna keep this one bc it was my first ever thomas & friends model.

new bachmann percy

my current bachmann percy. got him at least 6 years ago, still runs amazingly (aside from regular 0-4-0 problems like poor connection to the track.) he is one of my weakest models (probably the lightest) and struggles with longer trains but overall one of my favorite models. (and characters of the show.) the detail is a little low and the molding line between the 2 halves of the boiler is definitely noticeable, but those are the only 2 problems i have with it.

bachmann toby

basis: ger c53/lner j70

status: working

one of my best and favorite models, and my favorite character of thomas & friends. in comparison to thomas, percy, and james, the detail is solid. surprisingly, toby is one of my strongest pullers. my only complaint is that he's kind of noisy and a little slow. (but that is also matching to his character lol)

bachmann bill

basis: bagnall 0-4-0st

status: working

tied for my newest model, along with the soo line #6601. i actually got bill years ago, but he came broken. at the time i was really indecisive between oliver and bill, and when we sent it back at the last second i asked my grandparents to get me oliver instead. only recently did i get bill, and i love the detail, his performance, and his overall shape, especially the overhang off the sides of his short wheelbase. he's really weighty and much stronger than percy, even though he's smaller. also ive always liked bill more than ben, idk why

bachmann oliver

status: half-broken

(p.s. my memory of some stuff is going to be fuzzy bc it was so long ago) I was just talking about oliver in bill's section so you know the story, but from what i remember he was a good runner, although lightweight and a poor puller, especially uphill. i love his face and body shape, but i think someone stepped on him and he hasn't run until just this year when he decided to come back to life. the wheels are crooked and he doesn't fully stay on the track, but i liked seeing him run again after all this time.

bachmann busy bee james

basis: l&yr class 28

status: working

got it on the christmas of 2020, 6 years ago, along with my LBSC thomas. the detail is a little low but they did announce they're overhauling the thomas and percy models so maybe they will with james too. he's an average puller and the front bogey likes to jump off the track sometimes. i make it sound like a bad model but i actually really like it, the face is good, (hot take i know,) and his proportions are good. the livery is also faithful to the episode it came from, and looks really good. also at some point i had to sacrafice the middle tender axle so theres that.

bachmann ryan

basis: gnr n2

status: working

got ryan a few years back, idk how long but i know it was about a year or less after his release date. he's weighty and nearly as strong as toby, (toby still reigns supreme tho lol,) and has a good paint job. at the risk of sounding like a broken record, i like the detail, and i liked the face, when it accidentally stepped into an alternate dimension, and soon it was abducted by some aliens from space who kinda looked like jamie farr. (i cant find it)

bachmann lbsc thomas

got it on the christmas of 2020, 6 years ago, along with my busy bee james. its kind of weak but i absolutely love the green paint job, seeing as every green engine on sodor is the same lime green its really nice seeing a kind of gwr green. years ago i ran it through silica gel beads (?) so the motor is a little noisy but it still runs smooth and has good track pickup. the paint is a little chipped which was also a problem with my regular bachmann thomas.

got spencer on the christmas of maybe 2018 or 2019, he's my biggest model to date. writing this ive just realized the faces on bachmann models like to go missing lol but the eye mechanism also dissapeared at some point. im thinking about 3d printing a face or smokebox for him. for whatever reason he wouldnt run up until recently, the same day oliver started running again. i honestly have no idea how he broke but the wheels seem to have trouble moving when they get to a specific part in the axle rotation so i think something's wrong with the siderods. if you run it at full speed the problem's less noticeable.

got it with bill and the soo line #6601. i had an old motor lying around and tried to make a fan powered train (it didnt work) and so theres 2 drill holes right above the front axle. i thought it would be funny to have the miscevious face on the front while it goes way too fast along the track

bachmann csx gp38-2

my first ever model train, its really slow and the front coupler is broken but i absolutely love it. (not like "ohmygod this is so cool" love it like i really do love it.) it has amazing detail and is good at crawling because of the low gearing.

bachmann up f9

i think it's my second model train, the detail isn't great but i love it anyways. not very good at crawling because it came with a more budet friendly set, but the upside of that is that the gearing is really fast and it's really fun to run around the layout.

atsf sd70i?

status: working

i got it at a model train show years ago (maybe 2018) and have no idea who made it or what it's basis is lol. if i had to guess it would be an sd70i. tbh it's not that good of a locomotive, it's really loud and the wheels have flat spots or something. (theres a clicking sound that increases in speed when it runs.) the couplings are the wrong type and i only realized that when i got home. got an amazing deal on it though (only $50 from what i remember) and it was also the train show where i saw the southern pacific gs4 that i would later get, so not all that bad.

bachmann soo line sd40-2

status: working

the fabled soo line #6601 lol. my most recent locomotive, along with bill. i was really excited to get it running, and when i did it ran really smoothly and quietly. its nice having a model where both the knuckle couplers are intact lol. the detail is amazing and i'm pretty sure it's dcc ready. i don't have dcc and i'll probably never use it but it's nice to have the option.

both couplers are broken so i can't pull it, i'll replace them soon. rolls really smoothly and takes corners faster than any other train.

one of the couplings is broken so if i want to pull it i have to put it on the rear of the train or push it. it came with the csx starter set.

came with the csx starter set for some reason lol. i love boxcars but i can't pull it until i fix the couplings (they're both broken)

bachmann m&st. l hopper

that railway is a nightmare to abbriveate lol. it came with the union pacific starter set, and like the other rolling stock in that set it has plastic wheels. one of my 2 pieces of rolling stock that have completely intact knuckle couplers.

bachmann bn gondola

status: working

came with the union pacific starter set. it's my only other piece of rolling stock with fully intact knuckle couplers. like the other pieces of rolling stock in that set it has plastic wheels but i don't mind, as long as it works it's good.

up caboose

status: half-broken

came with the union pacific starter set. lol idk how but each bogey is missing an axle so it's like a 4 wheeled caboose but the wheels swivel. this makes it kind of crabwalk on the tracks and that always gets a laugh out of me. there is only one working coupling on there so on the end of my trains it's either that or the white tanker.

csx caboose

status: half-broken

came with the csx starter set. i would love to run that because i love cabooses (cabeese?) and it looks really nice. both of the knuckle couplings are broken so i can't run it until i buy some more.
